Friday October 24, 2014 – we got the call.

The one you wait for from the moment you begin the adoption journey. The one that has someone on the other end telling you that after all the mountains of paperwork and months of waiting that you are getting ready to hear about and see your child’s face for the first time – in our case, our little boy.

It was warm and sunny and Brandon and I were both home doing things around the house. I think I was dusting or something when my phone rang. The fact that it might be our adoption agency telling us we had been matched truly never even crossed my mind. As soon as I saw the name I had to sit down and catch my breath. It didn’t even feel real. After 3 years from beginning the process (almost) it was finally happening – it had just seemed so far away for so long.

To be honest it still does feel surreal at times. Knowing you have a son that you can’t hold, kiss, hug or play with, thousands of miles away … it’s hard.

We can’t share much about him or show you his adorable face, but he is just that, adorable! He has the biggest brown eyes with long eyelashes, a shy smile, and is approximately 3 years old (his birthday is unknown).

So where are things now? Well the next step is a court date. Our paperwork is in Uganda now and hopefully being filed with the court sometime soon. The courts take several weeks off for the holidays, so we most likely will not hear anything until mid-January or so. Once we have a court date we can begin to make travel plans. That piece is definitely overwhelming! Anyone out there who has been and there and done that – email me all your advice!

Many people have asked how they can help, so we wanted to share a little bit about that too.

Obviously first and for most – prayer. For his health and well-being (physical + emotional), for smooth filing of our paperwork, affordable flights (as much as an international flight can be!), swift movement through the Ugandan legal system, wisdom for us in parenting this sweet addition to our family, and for Liv to adjust well.

Secondly, we have been saving over the last several years, but adoption fees are high and the recent referral fee required most of what we had left when we accepted the match. We have decided to do a tee-shirt fundraiser, and our good friend James came up with an awesome design incorporating one of my favorite verses on it:

Psalm 40:5
Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.”

I love that he chose to include this verse – this beautiful truth – in the design.

We do serve a MIGHTY God who loves us so incredibly much and can truly do more than our human minds could imagine. My struggle through infertility and adoption has really allowed me to come to believe this at the core of my soul, and I will continue to cling to it now as this process is anything but easy and predicable.

If you feel led, we would love for you to have one of these shirts. They will be a soft-style T-Shirt and we have two different colors for you to choose from! We will be doing pre-orders on the shirts and they will ship in January. The shirts will cost $25 and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to help fund our adoption. The shipping is FREE! If you wish to make a donation greater than the cost of the shirts, you may do that by clicking the donate button below.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts in advance for being a part of his story and helping to bring our little boy home.
