Weekend Recap

Man.  What a Weekend.  Me and the guys loaded the trailer early on Friday morning in the snow/rain and headed down to the Carolinas.  When we arrived in Greenville, SC – it was 65 degrees and we had our windows down.  Yea.

We played at The Channel on Friday night.  The band Saint Lewis opened up for us.  We played a 12 song set which included songs off of my album and some other worship songs.  It was a great night.  A lot of my family came out to see us play and Jay (owner of The Channel) was super cool and man that place has some stellar burgers.  Dang.  They are legit.  I hope to be back soon.

After The Channel, we loaded up and headed up to the Asheville NC area and we led at a Student Conference on Saturday night called Solid Rock One Day.  Great event put on by some great people.  I really loved the flow of this conference.  All in all, we played 3 different worship sets that night and played around 12 songs again.  The energy in that room was great and the students responded really well.  Their were even students who accepted Christ – and well, you can’t beat that.  On our way back to the hotel we stopped at a gas station to get some necessities – skittles, drinks, laffy taffy…you know.  When I went to checkout I noticed they had a flyer on their counter promoting the Night of Worship the following night.  It was kind of funny, a little awkward, and very random.  But nonetheless we were thankful that it was being promoted in the community.

On Sunday night we played at Antioch Baptist Church in Waynesville, NC.  We did sort of the same format as Friday night.  Played about 12 songs with a mix of original songs off of my album and other songs as well.  Great night too.  Then we packed up and headed home.  I finally got in my bed last night at about 4:15 AM.

It was a great weekend and we were very thankful to be able to travel and lead.  Thanks for having us!

A couple housekeeping notes:

1)  If you weren’t able to get an album or a shirt at one of the events this past weekend, we have it all for sale on my website (http://brandongilliam.com/site/store/) and you can get the album on iTunes as well.

2)  If you’re interested in having us come down and lead at any of your events, camps, etc.  Please contact us we’d love to come and worship with you.  Click here to fill out a contact form!

Check out some pics below from the weekend.

Im so excited about this weekend.  Me and the guys will be heading down to North and South Carolina to lead worship at several different places.  Im thankful that I have a Pastor and a Church that sends us out every now and then and allows us to go and lead in other environments and contexts.  I don’t take that for granted.  So, thank you Pastor Paul and Rivers Crossing for your Kingdom mindset.

Here is kind of the run down of the weekend.  Im attaching some links to Facebook and Flyers below so you can have more information.  I would LOVE your help in getting the word out.  Its been a while since I’ve played in the Greenville, SC area so Im hoping to see a lot of my friends and family.

Current Pedalboard Setup

Alright guys so here is a video that I think I’ve posted about before, but I wanted to post again for all the new folks coming to join us here on this website.  Here is a video of my current Pedalboard setup.  I sent everything down to Motley Customs and had him set it all up for me with all custom cables and so forth.  He did an incredible job, so check him out if you’re wanting your pedal board to look and sound great!  Im going to be talking to my guitarist, Robbie Householder, and getting him to do a video of his setup as well.  He gets great tone and has even started making his own pedals, so I guess his engineering degree is already paying off.

Album Review

Hey guys I wanted to post an album review from KC Clark, a worship leader in the Charlotte NC area.  Be sure and check out his music and website here:  http://musbkc.com/.  I met him, as you’ll read below, in Charlotte at the Studio I was doing Pre-Production in.

Here is his review of my album – Thanks KC!

With so much music coming out of both the mainstream and indie scenes lately it’s hard to keep up. One of the things I love about being a part of such a large music community is that it sometimes reaches beyond our city and introduces us to new faces. This is the case with Brandon Gilliam. Gilliam has been leading and equipping others in corporate worship for over seven years. Serving as worship pastor at River’s Crossing Community Church in Cincinnati, OH.

I met Brandon on one of my frequents visits to Gat3 Studios in Charlotte. At the time he was in pre-production with producer Joel Khouri (John Mark McMillan). To be honest that was the first and last time we met. But soon after, I began seeing tweets about an upcoming EP from Brandon. Which was a short-term strategy to his full-length CD titled “A love better than life” which was released independently on October 18th. It’s available on iTunesAmazon.com and through his website,www.brandongilliam.com.

I contacted Brandon about doing a review and right away I had a digital copy of this goodness in my inbox. This album feels like the voice of one calling in the dessert, but what John the Baptist had not seen – Brandon has lived and experienced and it is evident in his music. Songs that draw attention to what God has done and what He continues to do. A call to true biblical worship with songs that are real and for the church of today.

“We wanted this worship album to be authentic,” shares Gilliam. “It’s so easy to get carried away in the studio with all the advances in technology. You can edit every little thing if you really want to and editing definitely has its place. But we wanted to give the listeners a fresh sound, a real sound–something they would hear if they were to see us play live. So what you get is an incredible sounding album but it still has that raw, live feeling to it in some ways.”

With six original songs and four covers Brandon, boldly navigates the characteristics of God and how we should respond. These are songs for the church and to the church. With strong roots in scripture and personal experience this album gives voice to those looking to worship God in a fresh way. “All Praises Rise” calls us to remember what God has done and continues to do. The title track “Love Better Than Life” proclaims an unending hope in an always faithful God. “Surrounded” is an invitation and a surrender to God’s presence, and the outro section is pretty close to what I hope worship in heaven will feel like. One of my favorites is Brandon’s remake of Nothing But the Blood in “Oh the Blood” . . . a simple but powerful way to close the record . . . “Praise His name, my debt is paid”

As I said before, with so much music coming out these days, it’s hard to sift through and find the goods. Brandon has managed to capture something that will encourage the believer and proclaim the greatness of God to everyone. I highly recommend you giving it a listen and add it to your playlist really soon.

His heart is for the Church to awaken to biblical, authentic worship and step in to the reality that the same power which raised Jesus from the dead is now alive in us, empowering God’s people with victory and a reason to sing. Brandon’s uncompromising pursuit of excellence is evident in his songwriting and it’s experienced through his unique ability to lead you, by the Spirit, in to God’s awe-inspiring presence.

Brandon and his wife, Megan, live in Cincinnati, OH.

Brandon is an equipper and solid leader that I look forward to hearing more from in the future. So you can do the same, go show him some love on twitter and Facebook.

Its hard to believe that another year has come and gone.  2011 was an incredible year in the life of our church (www.riverscrossing.com), for my family, and for me as I recorded my debut worship album.  Yes, there were low points throughout the year as there always are…but the Lord has been so good to us – and faithful during those times.  So now we look to 2012 and Im excited about what is to come.  I figured I’d just make some bullet points for ya.

*Rivers Crossing Community Church has purchased the Rave Theaters across from Kings Island and it is our new permanent home.  Im looking forward to this transition and to see how the Lord honors the faith of our people.

*I love playing at Rivers Crossing and being involved in the local Church. In fact, its vital.  As much as I love serving Rivers Crossing, I also feel called to share our music with the greater church around Cincinnati and the rest of the country. Bottom line, I am passionate about the kingdom and want to share that passion through worshiping with you, your church, or at your special event.

Please head over to the Contact Page and fill out the Booking Form if you’re interested in having us come play in 2012.

*Im wanting to either release a remix ep of some of the songs off of the album or an acoustic ep of some of the songs in the next 6 months.  Not sure yet.  Which would you rather have?

*A personal goal of mine is to read more.  Starting with the Bible.  I plan on doing a YouVersion reading plan.  I read the bible, but its sporadic.  I don’t read start to finish, I usually will read a book or a chapter here and there.  But I want to read from start to finish this year.  I also love theology and leadership books so Im hoping to dive into those a bit more.

OK – so here are just a few of my goals and what Im excited about in 2012.  I’d love to here yours.  Let me know in the comment section!
